Business Relationships and Communication in Agri-Food Chains (2008)

Agri-food businesses do not operate in isolation. An essential part of their activities is to connect with others: above all suppliers and customers, but also employees, investors and financial analysts, competitors and public-sector organisations. Building effective relationships and communicating professionally with others can be the key to business success in agri-food chains.

This briefing reports the results from the European Commission and Scottish Government co-financed project, FOODCOMM, which examined the key factors influencing economic relationships and communication in agri-food chains. The analysis was based on data generated by a survey conducted between November 2006 and April 2007. The resulting database contains information on business relationships and business-to-business communication from 1,442 farmers, food processors and retailers in two commodity sectors (meat and cereals) in six different EU countries (Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Spain, Poland).
