On- and Off-shore Renewables: Who Benefits? (2011)
This Policy Briefing summarises the key messages from a recent Debate organised as part of the 'Rural Scotland in Focus' series. Held in October 2011, the Debate brought together influential players and stakeholders from the policy arena, from the private, public and third sectors, and from communities.
Discussion at the Debate focused on three key questions: Who currently benefits from renewables? How do they benefit? What might need to change to ensure sustained benefit for different stakeholders?
Participants identified a number of areas in which change is required to ensure sustained benefits for all stakeholders, including: addressing skills gaps in the renewables industry; assisting communities with the challenges associated with renewables developments; the need for cross-sectoral partnership working and two-way engagement; the need for a more strategic, long-term governance framework; and a clearer identification of the possible benefits and how they can be realised.
