Mike Woolvin
Mike joined SAC's Rural Society Research Team as a Researcher in March 2011. Mike's research interests focus primarily on spatial variations in the nature and extent of voluntary/community activity and the third sector, and how these vary over time. Mike's work addresses questions which are increasingly raised regarding:
- the potentially unique character of the rural third sector;
- the nature of rural voluntary activity;
- and the implications of the current economic climate for these.
He asks how these processes may contribute to the resilience of rural communities, and what the implications of this might be for policy and practice at local, national and international scales.
Mike holds a BA (Hons) in Geography and an MA in Human Geography Research from the University of Sheffield. His PhD research at the University of Dundee was funded by the ESRC and Volunteer Development Scotland. It explores the nature, motivations and barriers to multiple forms of community involvement in deprived Scottish communities over time.
