Alistair Stott
Dr Alistair Stott is a Reader in Animal Health Economics. His research interests focus on the synergy between biological and economic research applied to the improvement of farm animal health and welfare. Alistair frequently works in inter-disciplinary teams of economists and scientists, for example, to establish control/prevention strategies that minimise the costs of major endemic diseases of cattle and sheep. Whole-farm studies have shown how better animal health can enhance the profit and viability of farm businesses.
Working with colleagues, Alistair has also identified least-cost methods of improving animal welfare in extensive sheep production systems and work with animal breeding specialists is leading to more sustainable dairy cattle breeding programmes that value improved animal health and welfare and less environmental impact, as well as greater milk production.
