About the Rural Policy Centre

The Rural Policy Centre was established in November 2007 to establish SAC as a leading authority on the impact of current and future policies on rural businesses and communities.

The aims of the Rural Policy Centre are:

  • To be recognised as a leading centre for research and consultancy on rural policies;
  • To position SAC as a major source of intelligence for the evolution of future rural policies;
  • To ensure SAC responds to relevant developments in policy-making.

The Centre operates as a focus for research in rural policy, informing and contributing to policy debates through conducting research projects, issuing regular briefings (based on relevant research and recent policy developments) and organising high profile events. The Rural Policy Centre operates across SAC, and in particular at the interface of the Research and Consulting Divisions with staff from both Divisions engaged in the Centre's work. In future, the Rural Policy Centre is looking to develop stronger relationships with external partners and stakeholders.

The Centre is currently developing a number of areas of work. These include CAP Reform, the productivity of Scottish agriculture and animal welfare. Further information will be added to the website soon.

We have also recently re-organised our Publications pages so that publications are available by theme: Thriving Communities, Health and Wellbeing, Food Matters, Changing Environment and Support to Agriculture.
