CODD

CODD has been around since the late 1980s.

In most outbreaks virulent footrot due to Dichelobacter nodosus infection is also present, and recent work has also implicated the involvement of spirochetes in CODD.

Diagnosis

  • Problems identified on the coronary band are CODD.
  • Close inspection shows that lesions develop at the top of the hoof, not between the toes.
  • In severe cases, there can be rapid shedding of the whole horn case leaving a raw digital stump

Treatment

  • Antibiotic foot bathing solutions can be prescribed by a vet specifically for the treatment of CODD
  • Conventional antibiotics and footbaths used for true footrot are not entirely effective
  • Animals which do not respond to treatment ought to be culled
