Litter Size & Lamb Behaviour

Triplet (or larger litter size) lambs are generally smaller than average as they have received less nutrition in pregnancy.

These lambs tend to be slower to stand and suck after birth, and have greater difficulty maintaining body temperature, partly due to their small size, and to their relative immaturity.

Twin lambs are usually active and vigorous at birth but may be compromised by the need for the ewe to provide milk for several offspring and the need for her to keep her two lambs together.
