Mobile Handling

The requirements demanded of a mobile facility are listed below together with the features which improve safety whilst using them.

Requirements

1. Encourage calm movement of cattle
2. Be easy to erect and dismantle
3. Provide solid protection to the handler

Key Features

  • Components of the mobile facility should be securely fitted together. Holding them by hand or with string is not adequate and a large number of injuries to handlers and cattle occur every year due to this
  • Each component should be securely anchored to the ground
  • Gates should be of the correct height (not less than 1.52m and substantially more for continental breeds)
  • The system should make use of cattle behaviour to aid movement using the principles described for permanent facilities in the tab to the left
