Gouge (Or Barnes Type) Dehorner

This is a fast simple dehorner to use on calves with horns 0.5 to 4 inches long.

Method

  • Apply an anaesthetic and allow adequate time for it to act
  • Close the handles and fit the knives over the horn
  • Position the instrument to remove a ring of skin with the horn
  • Spread the handles apart quickly, closing the knives and removing the horn
