Rubber Ring

The application of rubber rings to the neck of the scrotum above the testes occludes blood vessels, causing ischaemia and death of all tissues below the ring.

Method

Using an elastrator, slip the large strong rubber band over the testicles and release onto the scrotum, above the testicles.

Advantages

  • Bloodless method
  • Limited chance of infection

Disadvantages

  • Post-castration discomfort is prolonged by this method
  • Failures can occur if the rubber band breaks or is not applied properly
