SAC conducts a wide range of policy-relevant research that aims to provide the Scottish and UK Government’s and associated stakeholders with the knowledge they need for the development of rural policy.
Agricultural Systems
SAC Agricultural Systems research is intended to deliver more sustainable systems of food production – systems that are economically viable, but also environmentally and socially acceptable.
Food Supply Chains, Consumers & Policy
Our research involves the study of agri-food marketing issues, ranging from the farm through to the consumer.
Rural Sustainability
SAC’s rural sustainability research directly addresses rural sustainability as a concept or practice, and/or contributes to increased understanding of what a sustainable rural area might look like.
Environmental Management
Environmental Management research at SAC puts an emphasis on improving understanding of how farming systems interact with the environment and assessing how best farming systems can be developed to increase their sustainable use of natural resources and maximise their positive environmental impacts.
Animal Welfare
Animal welfare is a high profile ethical concern for the physical and mental well-being of animals under our care.
Animal Health
We aim to aid farmers, veterinarians, policy makers and agricultural advisers providing an understanding of animal diseases, their control and prevention.
