- Review of the Evidence Linking Climate Change to Human Health for Eight Diseases of Tropical Importance
- Review of the Evidence Linking Climate Change to Human Health for Eight Diseases of Tropical Importance (PDF: 963 kB)
- Authors: Corinne Baulcomb
- Published:Dec 2011
- As human societies are beginning to feel the early effects of 21st Century climate change, adaptation is becoming an increasingly important area of enquiry across a range of human sectors and activities. This is particularly true for the health sectors of tropical developing countries, as many of these countries will be some of the first to experience the impacts of global warming.
- Rapid Integrated Assessment of Climate Change-Induced Disease Burdens under Uncertainty
- Rapid Integrated Assessment of Climate Change-Induced Disease Burdens under Uncertainty (PDF: 539 kB)
- Authors: Corinne Baulcomb, Dominic Moran
- Published:Dec 2011
- This paper contributes to research on projecting and valuing the impacts of climate change on human health by proposing and implementing a methodology that allows for rapid integrated assessment of climate change-induced disease burdens to be used in environments characterized by cumulating uncertainty relating to data gaps and the accuracy of downscaled projections.
- The Economic Impact of allowing Partial Decoupling under the 2003 Common Agricultural Policy reforms on Scottish agriculture
- The Economic Impact of allowing Partial Decoupling under the 2003 Common Agricultural Policy reforms on Scottish agriculture (PDF: 611 kB)
- Authors: Alan Renwick, Torbjorn Jansson, Steven Thomson, Cesar Revoredo-Giha and Andrew Barnes
- Published:Dec 2011
- The agreement to decouple EU direct farm payments from production and introduce Single Payment Scheme (SPS) was formally made by Council of Agricultural Ministers in June 2003. Due to concerns raised, SPS provided Member States scope to retain some coupled support and this option was taken up by some Member States but not others. This paper assesses whether and to what extent partial decoupling affected single market and effect that it had on EU, member states and Scotland.
- Agri-food supply chains and sustainability-related issues: Evidence from across the Scottish agri-food economy
- Agri-food supply chains and sustainability-related issues: Evidence from across the Scottish agri-food economy (PDF: 416 kB)
- Authors: Leat P; C Lamprinopoulou; C Revoredo-Giha and B Kupiec-Teahan
- Published:Apr 2011
- This paper examines influence of agri-food supply chains on sustainability-related activities and decisions of Scottish farmers, as well as treatment of sustainability issues by food processors and retailers themselves. It is based on 8 whole chain case studies covering some of Scotland’s major agricultural products. The cases identify differing levels of understanding and activities related to sustainability, but widespread acknowledgement that sustainability involves development of chains within which all parties can achieve acceptable profits.
- How local and seasonal is the consumption of soft fruit in Scotland?
- How local and seasonal is the consumption of soft fruit in Scotland? (PDF: 431 kB)
- Authors: Revoredo-Giha C; G Philippidis; L Toma and A Renwicl
- Published:Dec 2010
- Main implication of food miles indicator is that in order to protect environment consumers should purchase food locally and seasonal. However, something that it is missing in all discussions is evidence about how bad or good - in terms of locality and seasonality - is actual consumption of food. This is probably due to fact that food consumption statistics are available as aggregated annual data. In this paper we analyse purchases of food, in particular purchases of soft fruits in Scotland, which not only have marked production seasonality but also are imported from rest of UK and from abroad.
