Workshop
This workshop was held in Aberdeen, Scotland, on 24-25 February 2003.
The overall aim was to identify, if possible, a hierarchy of animal welfare issues of particular relevance to extensive sheep production, based on current knowledge, and develop recommendations for a methodology for the on-farm assessment of sheep welfare.

Breakout Groups
During the workshop four sessions were scheduled which paralleled the introductory talks and specifically provided opportunity for delegates to contribute to discussion on four key areas of sheep welfare noted above.
Workshop Questionnaire
The collection together of delegates from a range of backgrounds was exploited in a number of ways, one of which was to seek their views and attitudes towards sheep welfare issues using a short questionnaire.
ACA
During the workshop the opportunity was taken to undertake a novel test of Adaptive Conjoint Analysis (ACA) as a mechanism for determining respondent preferences in relation to animal welfare.
Key Issues
At the conclusion of the workshop, views of delegates about the key issues associated with the welfare of sheep in extensive systems were sought.
