Mid-Wales
This group, led by ADAS consultant Kate Phillips, has 10 to 15 farmers. The group is centred around Newtown near Llanidloes in Powys, mid-Wales.
The area is predominantly hill land with most farms having suckler cows and sheep. The predominant hill sheep breeds are Beulah Speckled Face and Welsh Mountain. Flocks can vary from 600 breeding ewes up to 3,000.
The average size of flock would be 1000 breeding ewes, with flocks generally bred pure. Some of the farms have joined the Tir Gofal environmental scheme.
