Crianlarich on-farm workshop
28th & 29th May 2009
SAC, ADAS and the Macaulay Institute have been working together with farmers, and others from the sheep industry to address the challenges faced in Britain's extensive sheep farms. This project has focussed on the aim to maintain profits, while enhancing the reputation for high standards of animal welfare.
During the project, the team has explored the links between profit and welfare, providing insights into ways that the industry can build a sustainable future, at a time of considerable change. To share these insights with a wider range of stakeholders, and to get their feedback, an 'on-farm' workshop was organised. Researchers and participating farmers presented and discussed their results using farm walks and case studies to illustrate the major findings, challenges and solutions.
The workshop took place around Crianlarich (Scotland), near SAC research farms at Kirkton and Auchtertyre, in the Perthshire Highlands. It was held over 2 days, starting with a series of farm visits, combined with talks and discussions.
Talks and a report on the discussions are available for download (see on the side).
