Focus Group Meeting 3
February-March 2008
These meetings were held in February - March 2008 in the 4 locations.
The aims of these meetings were to explore labour usage and constraints during winter feeding, and the potential impact on welfare.
Farmers were asked to quantify their labour use during winter feeding (Jan-Mar). They were also asked to reflect on the main constraints they faced during winter feeding. Using a simplified PC simulation, they explored the impact of different levels of feeding on sheep survival and associated gross margins. Costs associated with farm labour were also considered by the farmers.
Finally, they undertook a laddering exercise based around the notion of welfare.
