Focus groups of farmers were being held regularly during the course of this project.
The four areas involved are : Cumbria, Peak District, Mid-Wales and North of Scotland.
Details on each focus groups session are available below. Interim results from the first 3 sessions are available for download in pdf format.
Focus Groups Meeting 1
These meetings were held in October and November 2006 in the four locations (Peak District, Cumbria, Mid-Wales and Scotland).
The aims of these meetings were to introduce farmers to the farm inventory study and to have them identify feasible CAP responses scenarios.
Farmers answered individually questions, in which they were asked what management changes they made since 2001, since 2005 (introduction of Single Farm Payment) and what changes they were likely to make in the next 5 years.
Focus Group Meeting 2 - North Yorkshire joint meeting
This meeting was a joint one over 2 days, held at York and Danby Moor, near Whitby, in June 2007.
The aims of this meeting were to score CAP responses scenarios, collect data to quantify impact of viable farm strategies and discuss labour data requirements with farmers.
Day 1:
Focus groups farmers were presented with the farming situation in the North Yorkshire National Park – extensive sheep farming on moorland.
