Postgraduate Research
Scientific research in the lab (opens in new window)
SAC is a Higher Education Institution with an extensive and internationally regarded programme of research. The SAC research and development programme is influenced by a wide range of national and international drivers. Especially important is our mission to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the agricultural industries, and to translate research and development findings into industry use through effective knowledge transfer.
Our dynamic research programmes are led by scientists of international reputation and usually involve teams of research workers. As a research student at SAC, you will therefore join a team of fellow research students, research scientists and technicians working on substantial programmes of research.
It is recognised by SAC that those engaged in postgraduate supervision must themselves be research active and that, usually, this activity must be such as to provide an appropriate breadth of perspective on the subject. The involvement of three or more supervisors in the supervision of many student research projects (in the form of supervisory teams) also ensures that students have available a wide range of advice and expertise when undertaking their programme of study.
Postgraduate Research Degrees
SAC offers excellent opportunities for research leading to a higher degree, usually a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Fees And Funding
Tuition fees for UK/EU students registered for research degrees for the 2009-2010 session are approximately £3,700 per annum for a PhD and £4,850 for MSc by research.
UK Government Requirements For Overseas Postgraduate Students
The UK government has introduced new requirements for certain non-EU/EEA (including Switzerland) national postgraduate students.
