Health, Food and Design Thinking - Stephen Brogan, 12/01/12
Contemporary systems thinking describes agriculture as a 'complex adaptive system', a type of disturbed ecosystem. Emerging practises, such as organic farming, seek to work in harmony with this complexity.
With the agricultural sciences rooted in a reductionist approach, how can we manage our food production systems within this complexity without destroying it? I will present two concepts novel to agriculture - design thinking and salutogenesis which may help resolve this conflict.
