SAC Contribution To Copenhagen
Two papers from SAC researchers contributed to the recent highly publicised international conference on Climate Change organised by the University of Copenhagen. Dominic Moran presented a paper on the economics of mitigating agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, while Anita Wreford’s paper was on adaptation.
The conference was the largest gathering of climate scientists before the forthcoming UN “Conference of the Parties” meeting in Copenhagen in December. There they will hammer out a post-Kyoto deal on emissions.
The conference heard from to a range of international scientists including Rajendra Pachauri (head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate, Change), Lord Sir Nicholas Stern, and John Schnellenhuber of the Potsdam Institute.
While the headlines concentrated on global risks from unheeded warning messages about warming, there is a growing interest in the topic of managing agricultural emissions, adaptation strategies and the risks for global food security. According to Dominic Moran “SAC would appear to be well-positioned to contribute to the research agenda, if we can successfully integrate our science.
