Research Interests
My main research interest has been in poultry welfare and environmental enrichment. My PhD was on the welfare of laying hens in battery cages.

Thereafter I have worked on three major postdoctoral research projects looking into 1) Effect of additional UV light and turkey production, 2) Epidemiological survey of tail biting occurrence in pigs in England and 3) Laying hens ability to fly; implications for non-cage system.

Since starting at SAC, I've worked on a variety of farm animal issues (pre-, post-natal stress, laying hen production, extensive farming systems).

Teaching
My primary function is to look after the MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare on behalf of the University of Edinburgh. You can link to MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare in the Related Links Section on the right of the page.
