Livestock Research Conference: Introduction

The morning session of the Livestock Research Conference, March 2007, dealt with Work Package 2.4 Animal Welfare.

Addressing an audience of about 100, SAC's Professor Alistair Lawrence said, “The public is greatly concerned with animal welfare issues and needs to be reassured that animal welfare policy is based on sound science. Other concerns such as climate change also need to be considered alongside animal welfare if we are to improve the general sustainability of livestock farming.

”Our welfare research programme aims to improve sustainability through cost-effective solutions to farm animal welfare issues, develop reliable and valid animal welfare indicators and integrate animal welfare to other important public issues using economic research methods.”

Presentations, posters and podcasts are reproduced here.
