CT Scanning Service
The Animal & Veterinary Science Research Group provides services to end users derived from its research activity.
We provide CT (computer tomography) scanning services to livestock breeders, to other research organisations and for veterinary diagnosis.
Edinburgh Genetic Evaluation Services (EGENES) is run by the Group in association with the University of Edinburgh and the Roslin Institute. It provides services to the Milk Development Council, the Meat and Livestock Commission and BASCO Data Ltd. We also provide dairy consultancy services linked to our R&D.

Livestock Breeding
The AVS Group has a long history of R&D on genetic improvement of farm livestock, and has an input to many of the indexes and other breeding tools in use in dairy, sheep and beef cattle breeding in the UK today.
Edinburgh Genetic Evaluation Services (GENES) is a specialist unit created within the AVS Research Group, which provides genetic evaluations (estimates of genetic merit derived from performance and ancestry data) for farm livestock and develops national and customised selection indexes.
Nutrition
The Animal & Veterinary Science Research Group provides a consultancy/advisory service in animal nutrition to farmers and the agricultural industry.
