SAC manages four research farm centres to provide research, education and knowledge transfer resources linked primarily to its applied research programme.

Dairying, arable, beef, upland sheep and hill sheep systems are managed at three farms:

  • Dumfries (Crichton Royal)
  • Edinburgh (Bush Estate, incorporating Boghall, Easter Howgate, Castlelaw, Woodhouselee)
  • Crianlarich (Kirkton and Auchtertyre)

There are commercial scale pig and poultry units with significant research interest at Bush and the Auchincruive campus at Ayr.
