Formulating A Future For Ayrshire Farmers

SAC Agricultural Consultant Kara Craig will be running a free networking event on Monday, 5th October for the future farmers of Ayrshire.

It will take place at SAC's Ayr Campus, Auchincruive at 7.30 pm on 5th October.  At four further meetings planned for this year they will be able to develop skills in negotiation, understanding accounts, writing a business plan and succession planning. The Monday evening event offers an informal opportunity to find out more.

Run by SAC for Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for environmental and land-based industries, the project is funded by the Scottish Rural Development Programme’s Skills Development Scheme.  In partnership are NFU Scotland, the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC), Scottish Tenant Farmers Association (STFA) and the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association (SRPBA).

The aim of the project is to help equip the next generation of farming leaders with the skills required to run a successful and profitable enterprise in a challenging economy. It follows a succession planning pilot course run last year by SAC and recent events in Dumfries & Galloway and the NE.  It represents an opportunity for farmers in Ayrshire and surrounding areas to improve business and management skills to operate a profitable farming enterprise.  Succession planning will be a key element.

Anyone interested in attending the free networking event or the seminars should contact Kelli Kirk or Bethan Dalley at Lantra on 01738 553311 or email lantra.scotland@lantra.co.uk. The subsidised seminars cost £80 plus VAT per family.
