Easter Bush Research Consortium Post Doc Society Launch
The newly-formed Easter Bush Research Consortium (EBRC) Post Doc Society has been launched with a packed event at the Roslin Institute.
It was organised by the postdoc committee, which includes a member from SAC and representing an EBRC-wide initiative, supported by all organisations involved. The society is an exciting new venture developed to inform and empower postdocs in their chosen career paths.
The event was to familiarise post docs with the society, its aims and the committee. It also allowed them a chance to socialise with peers, and to discuss what they want from the society and what the society can offer. Feedback received from the post docs was reported to be informative, inspiring and, most importantly, positive! The presence of experienced post docs as well as new ones was particularly reassuring as the society aims to play an important role both for people starting their career in science and for those already established.
The society is not about science, but about a career in science. The specific aims of the society are to:
- strengthen the links between different institutes
- create the appropriate environment for networking and social interaction
- provide specific support for postdocs in relation to funding and publishing
- provide direct links with academia and industry
- inform postdocs of specialist training, funds for T&S and job opportunities
The society is open to everybody and is EBRC-wide. If you are interested in finding out more about the society visit the EBRC Post Doc Society website.
They are currently considering options for upcoming events. Please get in touch if you have ideas that you would like to share. It is planned to hold the first one-day event in the autumn, to discuss further career opportunities for post docs. They hope to attract speakers from both academia and industry with a programme that is relevant, informative and beneficial.
In the meantime they are aiming to organise a summer gathering (purely social) to stay in touch with members and maintain the links already formed following the successful launch - watch this space!
SAC's committee member is Spiridoula Athanasiadou.
