World status for SAC animal breeding staff

SAC geneticists from the Sustainable Livestock Systems Research Group delivered 31 papers and chaired some important sessions at the recent World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production in Leipzig, Germany earlier this month.

Research topics covered by the SAC team during the event included broader goals for livestock breeding, social aspects of animal behaviour and breeding to improve animal welfare.

Held every four years, the Congress showcases animal breeding research projects taking place around the world. More than 1,300 delegates from 60 countries took part this year.

The Sustainable Livestock Systems Research Group aims to underpin the development of more sustainable systems of livestock production – systems that are economically viable, but also environmentally and socially acceptable.
