SAC Senior Bioenergy Consultant Neil Harrison will be contributing to two Farm Woodlands Demonstration days being organised in conjunction with Forestry Commission Scotland, the Association of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers and the SRPBA (Scottish Rural Property and Business Association).
The events are planned for Arniston Estate, Midlothian on 16th of June and Douglas and Angus Estate, Lanark on 21st July. There will be with indoor presentations and outdoor practical demonstrations of topics including growing, managing and harvesting high value broadleaf trees and funding options for wood fuel boilers.
Topics to be covered include:
- How wood fuel can be harvested from your woodlands providing a sustainable and cheaper alternative to kerosene or LPG.
- How to grow, tend and harvest high value broadleaf trees.
- Funding options for wood fuel boilers, including the RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive).
SAC’s Neil Harrison will be explaining how co-operative working can offer opportunities for wood fuel operations. Wood fuel harvested from woodlands offers a sustainable and cheaper alternative to kerosene.
“Many farmers don’t know the potential value of the woodlands on their farms”, he says. Very often simple management can make a tremendous difference. I hope these days will help build confidence through greater knowledge.”
