Sarah Joins Café Society
Cattle From Canna Via Rum (opens in new window)
Rural researcher Dr Sarah Skerratt of SAC’s Land Economy & Environment Research Group has been invited to contribute to Café Connect, the initiative delivering free public science talks in remote or rural communities across Scotland.
It strives to take the well-established Café Scientifique format, where scientists deliver free, informal talks to public audiences in non-scientific venues, to a wider audience.
All the events take place in July and Sarah will be speaking in the Bog Cotton Café, Cannich on Tuesday 12th. Her topic, Rural Resilience: Community Connections and Technologies for Tomorrow, will be exploring ideas generated by her recent road trip to community buyouts around the Highlands.
Locations for other events in the programme include, Kirkwall, Bonar Bridge, Kershader, Isle of Lewis, Castlebay, Isle of Barra, Knoydart, Mull, New Galloway, Eskdalemuir and Drumnadrochit. The speakers are a mix of dot.rural Co-Investigators, Research Fellows, Postgraduate Researchers and Associate Investigators with backgrounds in Ecology, Communications Engineering, Transport research, Computing Science, Sociology and Healthcare.
Café Connect is supported by the Scottish Government. If you have any queries, or would like more information, please contact the Café Connect series coordinator Dr Claire Thorne (dot.rural Training and Outreach Officer) on 01224 274066 or email c.thorne@abdn.ac.uk.
