Taking the SAC Message South
Farm meeting in Westmorland (opens in new window)
SAC stalwarts Ian Pritchard and George Caldow completed a busy autumn schedule of meetings south of the border, spreading the message about disease control and health planning.
The majority of their activity has been in the north of England, ably supported by the “local” FRBS team of Ian Cairns and James Hadwin. However they managed to stray as far south as Norfolk where, at a daytime and evening event, they spoke to 50 clients and potential clients about the Premium Cattle Health Scheme.
Further north the pair addressed over 250 farmers at an on farm meeting in Westmorland and presentations held in auction marts at Carlisle, Hexham and Skipton. The events focussed on health and productivity. They were actually driven by the auction companies as they see the opportunity to maintain/grow their market in Scotland by ensuring that North of England livestock meet the criteria of suitable BVD status as the Scottish BVD eradication campaign gathers momentum.
“I cannot praise the auction companies enough”, said Ian Pritchard. “I mentioned the opportunity to them and they were very keen to run with the meetings and promote them.
Many of those attending sell breeding stock and needed to find out more on trading requirements to Scotland”.
When in Northern England George and Ian also arranged meetings on BVD and Johne’s for over 60 vets from practices in Cumbria, Northumberland and Yorkshire.
