SAC Promotes Research Links With Japan
SAC and the University of Edinburgh recently co-hosted a visit for a delegation from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the Japanese equivalent of Research Councils UK.
The visitors, from JSPS’ London office, provided information about the different programmes their organisation offers. These include post-graduate student fellowships, post-doctoral fellowships and professorial fellowships. Insightful presentations from past JSPS Fellows that gave a glimpse of life in Japan. Around 40 members of staff from both institutions attended. The delegation also toured some of SAC’s facilities.
SAC Researcher Dr James Fountaine is a past recipient of a JSPS fellowship (2006-2007) when he studied fungicidal resistance in Japan’s crops at the National Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences, Tsukuba.
James remains actively involved with JSPS and was their Scottish ambassador in organising the recent visit. He will be happy to pass on further information on JSPS fellowships and on working and life in Japan.
More information on the different programmes can be found directly on the JSPS website.
