Young Emma’s Award
SAC researcher Dr. Emma Baxter has won the Young Animal Welfare Scientist of the year award, presented by the UFAW (Universities Federation for Animal Welfare). Emma received her award from Professor John Webster, well known vet and long time promoter of farm animal welfare, at the recent UFAW conference held in Portsmouth.
The aim of the new prize is to recognise the achievements of young scientists who have made significant contributions to improving the welfare of animals. The Emma’s work on improving piglet survival and her collaboration with the industry in finding practical ways to improve the welfare of production systems is particularly notable. She collected a £1,000 cheque, a framed certificate and the respect of her peers.
