Prize winner Dave Ross

Dave Ross, the innovative research engineer working in SAC’s Sustainable Livestock Systems Group was presented with the Inverarity Prize during the Royal Highland Show. Named after former SAC Chairman Sandy Inverarity, who presented it to Dave, the award recognises a special contribution to Business Innovation.

So far, during his career with SAC Dave has been co author of 6 patent applications. The projects he has been involved with include sensing technology for vegetable grading,  a skin finish meter for  assessing vegetable quality,  novel mechanisms for  floor sensing ( which is currently on display in the British Museum  as Intelligent flooring for future technology). 

Since joining SLS he has been involved in establishing the ground breaking ”Green Cow” Research equipment for SAC’s climate change research. He is also busy with IMEQ, the Scottish Government funded project developing novel methods of measuring meat eating and carcass quality on the slaughter line. He is working in collaboration with, amongst others, QMS and Scotbeef.

A Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies Dave was considered a worth winner of the Inverarity Prize. At the Highland Show ceremony on the SAC stand it was said that if he was a stick of rock he would have innovation written right through him.
