SAC curlers sweep up donations for Ayrshire charity

The Ayr-based Environmental Teaching Group contributed to raising more than £4000 for Ayrshire charity Hansel when they sponsored an SAC team in a recent curling tournament.

SAC’s Countryside Education Officer Sally Gray is President of the Galleon Curling Club, which organises the annual charity bonspiel in Kilmarnock’s Galleon Centre.

Twenty teams of four players competed. The SAC curlers were Sally, Bruce Philp and former members of staff Malcolm Smith and Dave Arnot.

Sally said: “We’re really grateful for the support the Environmental Teaching Group showed by sponsoring the team and I know Hansel is also very thankful for the efforts to raise funds for their work.”

Sally and her fellow curling club members rallied support for the event from local businesses and the farming community. She took the opportunity on the day to promote SAC Learning’s forthcoming relocation from Auchincruive to the new Riverside Campus by displaying information about the new building and the range of courses on offer.

Over the past 22 years, the annual bonspiel has raised more than £70,000 to help Hansel carry out its work supporting people with disabilities and their carers.
