Boosting Cumbria’s Food and Drink Sector

SAC is launching a new programme of workshops designed to help Cumbrian rural food and drink businesses overcome current economic challenges and achieve sustainable growth.

The programme will start  with a free event at the Wild Board Hotel, Crook, Cumbria, LA23 3NF, on Wednesday 8 February 2012. This ‘scene setting ‘ workshop runs from 10am to 2pm and will look at how the UK food and drink sector as a whole is responding to current market trends. Participants will be invited to discuss what Cumbrian businesses can learn from this national picture.

Paul Mayfield of SAC Food & Drink will also outline the content of the new programme and give a flavour of the potential new market opportunities it may present.

The introductory workshop will be followed by a further 10 interactive sessions held throughout 2012. These will cover topics including:

  • Market information and market research
  • Adding value
  • Product development and design
  • Customer skills and selling
  • Pricing and promotion

The workshops are being delivered by SAC via Rural Skills Cumbria, which is funded by Defra through the RDPE Programme and managed by the LEADER Local Action Groups (LAG’s) in Cumbria.

Those wishing to attend or seeking further information about the workshop programme can contact Paul Mayfield, SAC Food & Drink, on 07825 552220 or paul.mayfield@sac.co.uk.
