Two SAC geneticist are playing leading roles in the body that represents the European animal production sector.

Dr Joanne Conington has just been elected as a Vice-president of the European Association of Animal Production’s (EAAP) Commission on Sheep and Goat Production. Her appointment follows that of Dr Mike Coffey, who became President of the EAAP Commission on Cattle Production in 2008.

EAAP represents the professional interests of scientists, academics and industry through the activities its three Commissions - on Cattle, Sheep and Goats, and Pigs and Poultry.

Speaking of Dr Conington’s election, President of the EAAP Commission on Sheep and Goat Production, Dr Markus Schneeberger, said: “I am very glad that Joanne Conington accepted to become one of the three vice-presidents of the Sheep and Goat Commission. Her expertise will be very valuable for the future work of the Commission. Her experience on the scientific as well as the practical side of sheep production makes her a very comprehensive expert.

“She has a very impressive record of scientific publications, combined with real hands-on experience. The commission always tries to bring together science and practice, and I am convinced that Joanne can contribute a lot.”
