Ian Cairns has been awarded the 2011 Sir RC Stewart Prize (opens in new window)
Ian Cairns, the Wooler based Regional Manager of SAC’s Farm and Rural Business Services in the North of England, has been awarded the 2011 Sir RC Stewart Prize. The prize, named after a former President of SAC Governors, acknowledges effort and excellence in outreach activities by those who have contributed significantly to the development of consultancy work. Ian Cairns received his award at SAC Graduation ceremony in Bute Hall, University of Glasgow on Friday 8th July.
In announcing the award Jonathan Cowens, SAC’s Director of Consulting, said:
“Over the last 6 years Ian has led the dramatic growth of SAC’s customer base in England with new offices opened in Wooler, York and Kendal. Furthermore, Ian has most successfully identified projects that can deliver high levels of turnover for SAC, whilst at the same time providing local consultants with the opportunity to develop business and promote SAC’s consultancy services.”
Ian Cairns joined SAC in August 1997 as the Area Manager in Stornoway. In addition to his consultancy activity he became actively involved with the community as secretary of the Lewis and Harris Sheep Producer Association, as a committee member of the Lewis and Harris Cattle Producers Group, and as director of the Long Island Rural Trust.
Ian was promoted to his present post in 2005. It offered significant challenges for him as SAC entered a new and unproven business territory. However Ian involved his specialist colleagues and ensured the profile and image of SAC demonstrated a high calibre of technical competence and sound practical advice.
Jonathan Cowens told the audience in Bute Hall:
“The success of projects such as the Isle of Man Land Classification and the Cumbria Leader project (a project valued at £1.7 M) are testament to Ian’s ability to collaborate profitably with external parties. Ian demonstrates the highest standards in all that he does, and has a proven ability to convert innovative ideas into significant new business growth for SAC in operations south of the border”.
