SAC’s growing catalogue of audio podcasts on livestock health offers advice to farmers and crofters in a way that is easy to listen to. Using the expertise and experience of SAC vets from around the country the podcasts cover topics from pre tupping management to minimising disease in housed cattle, parasitic gastroenteritis and fertility management. Podcasts planned for the future will address worm control strategies and fertility benchmarking.

The series, recoded by former BBC Scotland producer Sam Thom, uses a conversational style to address key issues affecting livestock managers. A written transcript of each interview is also available on line, in addition to an article on the same subject. They can be reached on the SAC Consulting website and, if required, downloaded for use later.

That way, according to Brian Hosie, SAC Consulting Veterinary Services Manager, the podcasts can be listened to while driving the tractor or truck.

“We have been experimenting with audio podcasts for some time and deciding how best they can fit into our activities and staff availability. For the moment audio files are easier to produce and manage than video. This new, monthly Livestock Health series is the next step in our programme and we have plans to use other opportunities to help get important messages across. Not everyone wants to sit and read a lot of text”.

Access the livestock health podcasts or visit the SAC Consulting page of this website and then select Livestock Health Podcasts.
