Building Britain’s Newest Botanic Garden: 22nd Annual SAC RHS Lecture
SAC News Release Ref. No: 11N01
Published: 05 Jan 2011
Professional horticulturalist and former BBC Gardeners’ World presenter Professor Nicholas Wray will reveal the secrets behind the creation of the UK’s newest botanic garden when he gives the 22nd Annual Public Lecture in Ayr on 18th January 2011.
Organised by SAC in conjunction with the Royal Horticultural Society, Professor Wray’s lecture will explore the work of the new University of Bristol Botanic Garden. The garden’s development got underway in 2005 and has involved the propagation and transplanting of over 12,000 plants.
The Bristol Botanic Garden focuses on four themed plant collections: plant evolution; plants of Mediterranean climate regions; useful plants; and local flora and rare native plants. The garden also provides many ideas for layout and plant use in a private garden so Nicholas will be providing some expert tips when he answers the audience’s gardening questions.
The lecture takes place at 7.30pm on 18th January 2011 at the SAC Auchincruive Campus, Ayr. To book tickets contact Peter MacDonald at Auchincruive on 01292 525313 or email peter.macdonald@sac.ac.uk. RHS members £5.00, non-members £8.00.
