SAC on the road (opens in new window)

The programmes and speakers for this years two SAC Outlook “Roadshow” events have been confirmed. The autumn programme has been arranged to present the latest SAC business/market analysis direct to farmer audiences, coupled with thought provoking commentary by respected industry figures.

The locations chosen for this year’s series are SAC’s new Riverside Campus in Ayr and the Dewars Ice rink in Perth. Both meetings will start at 7.30 pm and finish at 9.30 pm. Each free event will be chaired by an SAC Board member, with two presentations from expert SAC staff and a key note address by an invited speaker.

At Ayr the guest speaker is Jim Baird, a member of a dairy farming business in Lanarkshire milking 340 cows. A member of the DairyCo board, he is also a Nuffield Scholar and just returned from New Zealand, which puts him in an ideal position to give a well informed personal view on the future of dairying.

James Withers  will give the keynote address in Perth. Having just stepped down from his role at NFU Scotland he will be getting to grips with his new role as Chief Executive of the food promotion body “Scotland Food and Drink”. James will outline his vision for the sector and in particular the role primary producers can play.

There will be an opportunity to question the panels at each gathering. The programmes have been chosen to reflect industry interests in the different areas, while together they offer an industry wide perspective. In the build up to major reform of the CAP the aim is to try and help farmers consider how they might adjust their business plans for the challenges ahead.

The series is part of SAC’s Success through Knowledge campaign. SAC acknowledges support for Knowledge Transfer and Exchange from Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council.

While the event is free some idea of the numbers attending would help those planning post event refreshments.
