SAC Welcomes Publication of Pack Inquiry Report on Future Support for Scottish Agriculture
SAC News Release Ref. No: 10N92
Published: 04 Nov 2010
SAC has welcomed today’s publication of the final report of the Pack Inquiry into Future Support for Agriculture in Scotland.
Dr Alan Renwick, Head of the SAC’s Rural Policy Centre said: “The proposals in the report are designed to address the diversity of Scotland’s rural economy, landscape and farming enterprises while meeting challenging environmental goals. We welcome the original approach that has been put forward by the report.”
“A payment system has been proposed based on the Less Favoured Area (LFA) status of land with a blend of area payments, coupled support and Top-up Funds. While the details of the top-up funding mechanisms are yet to be developed, SAC supports the need for objective, new research to ensure that future support for sustainable economic growth is delivered.”
