Sell More & Waste Less - Advice For Those Starting Food Businesses

SAC News Release Ref. No: 10N26
Published: 22 Apr 2010

SAC and the Institute for Grocery Distribution are holding a free, one-day workshop designed to help small food and farming businesses increase their sales and reduce costs.

This event, 9.00 am – 3.30 pm, Wednesday 5th May, 2010 at the Huntingtower Hotel, Perth and which is a first for Scotland, follows a previous series piloted last year in England.  Originally planned for March, this event in May is strictly focussed on the kind of practical advice needed by those starting out in the food sector.

The event is a result of the growing relationship between the SAC Food Marketing Team and IGD. It is aimed at those owning businesses with a turnover less than £10 million a year and employing fewer than 50 people. Most of Scotland’s innovative food businesses fall into that category. Those attending the workshop will also have the opportunity for further advice and guidance over a two-month period.

Among the topics covered during the day will be increasing value and reducing waste, guides on best practice and examples of proven value to farming and food firms. There will be papers from marketing experts and those with a deep understanding of supply chains and how to translate consumer value into customer needs.

The course is limited to 12 participants. Anyone seeking further details should contact SAC's Annetta Ingram.
