SAC Extends Its Territory In England - New Farm Consultancy Office Opens In Kendal
SAC News Release Ref. No: 10N22
Published: 19 Mar 2010
James Hadwin, SAC's Kendal consultant (opens in new window)
SAC has moved deeper into northern England with the opening of its new Farm Business Services office in Kendal.
It will allow the Scottish Agricultural College to provide a consultancy service to yet more rural businesses and communities. The latest SAC office is on the Westmorland Show GroundLanes Farm, near Crooklands, Kendal., just off junction 36 of the M6 through Cumbria. It will be the working base for consultant James Hadwin, a local farmer's son who is already well known to many in the area.
SAC’s reputation amongst rural communities in Scotland and beyond is built on the close links between its research, education and consultancy activities which help it address ever changing industry needs. A range of specialists support the local SAC experts who help business performance through such things as animal health and nutrition, financial planning, environmental initiatives and ways to address the challenge of climate change.
The office in Kendal is the latest in a network of 27 SAC consultancy offices spread across Scotland and the north of England. James Hadwin will work closely with experienced colleagues already established in Wooler. Overall more than 400 SAC Consulting staff service cover 12,000 clients including farmers, vet practices, food companies and local government.
James is the fifth generation of his family to farm the 110 ha Mansergh Hall Farm near Kirkby Lonsdale which he runs with his father. It has been organic since 2001, raising Galloway beef, Cheviot cross sheep and outdoor Saddleback pigs. James has a strong practical and managerial background, latterly working at Myerscough College as Farmer Group and Demonstration Event Facilitator. As part of the Northwest Livestock Programme he facilitated the monitor beef and sheep farm in Lancashire and delivered animal health plans.
The delivery of beef and sheep health plans continues to be an important role for James Hadwin. However with the Upland Entry Level Stewardship scheme replacing the former Hill Farm Allowance system of support payments to farmers he soon expects to be busy helping them complete their complex application forms.
The deadline for applications is the end of June so now is the time to get the forms filled in. SAC can provide this service at very competitive fee rates.
“I see this new role as a great challenge,” says James. “I really enjoy working with farmers and share an enthusiasm for agriculture. I always look for ways to improve and believe that small changes can make a massive difference to the productivity of a rural business. SAC has the same values and I look forward to being part of a great organisation.”
