Crichton Open Farm Sunday - Another Success
Crichton Open Farm Sunday 2010 (opens in new window)
Almost 300 people attended this year’s Open Farm Sunday event at SAC’s Crichton Royal Farm, Dumfries.
As usual, the focus was on dairying, with Daisy the plastic cow helping Farms Manager Hugh McClymont and his volunteer helpers pull in the crowds.
Visitors had a chance to see the milking and then try it out for themselves on Daisy. There were calves to see and a chance to learn about the different feeds for dairy cows. There were trailer rides to the nearby Acrehead unit, foot trimming demonstrations and a chance to discover how biodiversity and wildlife can be encouraged on the modern farm.
As usual the ice-cream and BBQ rounded off the day, after a look round some very new and very old farm machinery. There was a positive feedback from all concerned.
