Seeking Enterprising Scottish Rural Leaders

2009 course participants (opens in new window)

SAC is once again facilitating the Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership programme. The search is on for ambitious rural business managers, looking to develop their leadership skills and make a greater contribution to the rural economy.

According to Julian Pace, Rural Director of Scottish Enterprise, “A successful leader is not just about being confident with high communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to make quick decisions while negotiating effectively. They have high aspirations for their organisation, can identify a sense of purpose and can communicate that to their entire staff.”

The programme, which has been running since 2006, is delivered through a series of workshops, residential modules and learning journeys. To date over 160 participants have successfully completed the programme, which is already making a difference.  It equips participants with the skills, contacts and knowledge to lead more effective organisations and be a positive influence at a local, national and international level.

The new six-month programme will begin in October 2010.  It will give participants access to inspirational speakers and increase their awareness of the political process in Scotland, Westminster and Brussels. There will be individual coaching sessions, media training and the chance to make new contacts and networks in a personal action plan for growth.

Recruitment evenings will take place on 8 June (SAC Auchincruive, Ayr), 15 June (SAC Craibstone, Aberdeen) and 22 June (Quality Hotel, Edinburgh).
