AAGA Still Cooking

SAC's Aberdeen campus (opens in new window)

Aberdeen Agricultural Graduates Association (AAGA) continues to flourish despite the now limited number of students attending Aberdeen University with direct links to agriculture.

Craibstone-based lecturer Jim Marr reports that graduating SAC students will now be the main recruiting source. This follows the example set by Aberdeen University Agricultural Society which now involves SAC students at all levels.

AAGA was started by the late Professor Peter English, animal welfare specialist and shinty stalwart. The current AAGA committee is chaired by economist Prof Ken Thompson and is now heavily weighted with SAC staff.  At the recent AGM microbiologist Dr John Wallace of the Rowett Institute gave a presentation on “Ruminants, Methane and Global Warming”.

Later this month AAGA will be sponsoring a group of SAC students planning to attend the ”Young Engineer” competition to be held in Coventry later this month.

Anyone interested in joining the Association and hearing about past, current and future events or just news past and present of University and SAC staff should contact Jim Marr.
