Many SAC Fingers In Food Awards Pie – SAC Support Shows Dividends

An innovation award for Kenny Groat at the recent Grampian Food Forum’s glittering ceremony in Aberdeen provided another example of an SAC graduate running an award winning food and drink business.

Tesco Chairman David Reid presented Kenny with the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health Award for a healthy eating product. His winning product, Very Low Fat Probiotic Yoghurt, is produced by the Devenick Dairy in Portlethen, run by Kenny, his brother and their parents.

Another SAC graduate Gregor Mackintosh was shortlisted in the same category, and also in the Retail Innovation category for his range of Infused Rapeseed Oils.  Both Kenny and Gregor were participants in the Grampian Food Forum Business Growth and Innovation Programme, delivered by SAC’s Food Marketing Team. They have just completed a series of highly successful workshops aimed at supporting business skills and added value for small scale food and drink businesses.

David Meikle, Chairman of Grampian Food Forum announced at the Awards Ceremony that the Business Growth and Innovation programme will continue in 2010 to 2011 with a focus on specific support areas such as event management, packaging, public relations and pricing.  He confirmed it will continue to be delivered by SAC’s Food Marketing Team, with workshops commencing in April and for which demand is already anticipated to be high.

The Awards celebrated their 20th year and SAC involvement continued with the judging of the most successful product from the 2009 Awards by Ceri Ritchie. The evening was compèred by SAC’s Head of Communications, Ken Rundle. The event continues to be a platform to showcase the best of food and drink from the North East region, and provides a role for SAC in supporting the growth and success of businesses.
