Red Carpet Rolled Out For Swiss
SAC Edinburgh recently hosted a visit from students and staff from the Swiss College of Agriculture. The group of 24 Bachelor degree students (Food Science & Management) were in Scotland for their annual study tour, and 'kicked off' their week with an insight into key SAC food research activities.
Dean of Centre Bill Spoor provided a background to SAC and then presentations covering aspects of meat quality, the food supply chain and barley malting quality were given by Elly Navajas, Cesar Revoredo-Giha and Steve Hoad.
After a buffet lunch, the group departed on a “research“ visit to Edinburgh Castle followed by the Scotch Whisky Experience - to check Steve got his facts right! Further visits during the week included ASDA Distribution Centre, Dawnfresh Seafoods, Thomas Tunnock Ltd, United Central Bakeries, Glenkinchie Distillery and Belhaven Brewery via Loch Lomond and Holy Island.
SAC has received exchange students from the Swiss College of Agriculture over several years - initially to Food Science and Technology, and more recently to Agriculture, Applied Bioscience and Rural Business Management.
Thanks go to Mike Smith, Research Manager, for arranging the food research programme. Lesley Howie, a Food Scientist based at the Ayr Campus, was also involved in organising the study tour.
