If Only She'd Worked In 'Turra'
Heather with her silverware (opens in new window)
Keeping the Elgin Office on the straight and narrow has proved the right course for SAC trainee consultant Heather Gauld. She is becoming a regular winner at Young Farmers' ploughing matches, recently collecting the silverware at an event at Sinsharnie, Cairnie by Huntly. Heather will actually pick up her trophy at this month's Strathbogie Young Farmers' Annual Burns Supper.
Even before the snow, the autumn weather had devastated ploughing competitions around Scotland and the Cairnie event had already been postponed once.
However Heather, with her MX110 tractor and 3-furrow Ransome plough, coped well with the conditions and won the senior section from two male rivals. Admittedly it was not her first attempt. She previously took the overall championship on her fourth outing.
At home, at Lower Costlyburn, Kinnoir it is Heather’s father and brothers who do most of the ploughing. She is left alone to plough her own furra. Which would have rhymed beautifully if only she had worked in the Turra (Turriff) office!
