Sarah Our Crichton Conversationalist

Sarah Skerratt (opens in new window)

SAC social scientist Dr. Sarah Skerratt will present the next “Crichton Conversation” in Dumfries on Tuesday, 2nd February at 7.30 pm.

The event, held in Brown House on the Crichton Campus, is sponsored by SAC.  It is open to the public and attracts people from Dumfries and Galloway with a keen interest in wider issues. The subject last year, addressed by SAC Chairman Lord Jamie Lindsay, was whether the era of cheap food was over.

In her presentation Sarah, who is Senior Researcher and Team Leader, Rural Society Research, will consider what creates vibrant rural communities and how they can be maintained.  She will address the issue of community involvement and introduce examples of successful integration, including examples from Finland.

Sarah has been leading a team compiling a new SAC report “Rural Scotland in Focus” which, for the first time, brings together a range of information and analysis on the issues facing rural communities and policy makers.  It will be launched at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on 22nd February.

Sarah’s Crichton Conversation begins at 7.30 pm.  There is a £4.00 charge for the lecture or £13.00 for lecture and supper.  Anyone wishing to attend should contact The Crichton Foundation, Brown House, Crichton University Campus,  Dumfries, DG1 4ZZ.
